Morning Prayer of Lauds

WATSONVILLE – The Liturgy of the Hours‘ Morning Prayer of Lauds will be prayed at the parish of Our Lady, Help of Christians, 2401 East Lake Avenue, each morning of the Sacred Triduum at 8am.

Lauds or “Morning Prayer” is a canonical hour of the Divine Office, the official prayer of the Church.

Following an introductory verse, Lauds begins with a hymn, followed by a morning psalm, a canticle from the Old Testament, and a psalm of praise. These are opened and closed by antiphons. A brief reading from Sacred Scripture occurs next, followed by a brief responsory. Then comes the Canticle of Zechariah with its antiphon. The Intercessions, the Lord’s Prayer, and the concluding prayer of the day, followed by a blessing and dismissal.
